The Best Thursday

After a few days of Layla being a giant turd I realized that it started when T went to school.

We talked about how it is ok to miss him and he wont be gone long at all. She is marking her X's every night now to countdown to his return and yesterday was a MUCH better day! She also tells me now that she misses his a lot more often and I am able to talk to her about it and it puts her in a better mood.

Yesterday after school we ran to the store for a couple of things and Layla saw a $4 Frosty DVD so I let her toss it in the cart. We watched that and Free Willy while curled up on the couch all day. We also spent time outside playing "soccer" with her halfway deflated Dora ball.

She ate every bit of her dinner and was happy to get some candy after. It was just the best day. Hopefully this new attitude sticks!

Not Wordless Wednesday on Thursday.

I just wanted to jump on here and post a picture from my exciting Wednesday night. The past few days have felt pretty busy. Today I am enjoying being able to come home from taking L to school, kicking off my flops and sliding back into my slippers. It's pretty chilly outside.

Oh well.

Now to finish the laundry I started and the dishes I haven't started.

Fishing.

The other day I totally bailed out on Melissa and our exciting day filled with sanding and painting a crib to spend the day with T and Layla before he headed off to school. He said he wanted to go fishing with us. There is NO way I could pass that up! Layla and I LOVE to go fishing but just not for the length of time he does...and I am ok with not catching anything. Him? Not so much. See, there is this neighbor who knows this special place to take T fishing and now T is spoiled. If he doesn't catch at least 40 fish what's the point?! Ok, not really...but a little. He is more about catching than fishing which is why I am VERY thankful that after about 3 hours on Saturday we caught one. If we hadn't we'd probably still be there and Layla and I would probably be pretty grumpy :)

I didn't take any pictures for a pretty long time but decided to finally bust it out when my weak girly arms were tired of casting. I was SO proud of Layla here when she decided to grab her own worm from the tub!


And then she went on to tell me all about how you hold this pole and what to do with it

There were a ton of cows. The first ones I saw came right out of the woods. Like IN the woods. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

This is Lucky. I think that was her name. She followed us around and watched close every time we brought our line up. She likes fishing...and swimming. And she smells a little like Sadie.


And she went off for a bit and came back with a green head. Not sure what she got into


Layla was having a blast! She has been wanting to go fishing again since whenever it was we took her before. Last year sometime. It was cold.

And I was hanging back with Lucky. She wiped her paw on me and got me muddy. I was just happy it was mud and not cow poop. Really happy.


It started getting chilly out so since there was no leaving without at least catching one fish Thomas decided he needed to leave the dock and go catch him a fish.


Layla and I stayed at the dock.


And waited


Waited for T to catch THE fish from the better spot...


The dog was hoping to help him bring in that fish he was going to catch


Meanwhile, I tried (and failed) to get Layla to smile and look into the camera but look natural.

Not so much.

Then she had to pee. And blow her nose. So off to the car/woods we go. When we got back to the dock I got the worm in the water while she either wiped her nose or did something else. Not sure what because that is when WE caught THE fish. I had to yell for Thomas over in his special not on the dock fish catching spot to get over and touch this thing because we caught one.

This was going to be a picture of Layla with her prize fish but Lucky sprints through branches just as fast as T does and was ready to help Layla take it off of the hook

PERFECT timing! By the time the girls had caught the fish from the dock and had the guy touch it enough to throw it back it had started to get dark. We cleaned up and headed out. Thank goodness for that darn fish. It was getting cold.


We drove back to the friend's house whos pond we were at dodging cows the whole way. Now if only it would have rained hard enough this morning to wash the poo and mud off of my car...now I need to spend the $9 to get my car washed with the pretty colors at the drive through :)

Krispy Kreme Tour

Layla and I drove out to Dothan this morning to join some other moms from meetup.com for a tour of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.




It was SO much fun! First off we split into two groups and we (group 1) lined up to go into the back. Layla was playing shy.


But then the lady passed out hats and she was ready to go. They took us through a door into the back of the kitchen first.


This guy is the head doughnut maker. Here he is talking about how much out of each barrel he uses to make the dough. They don't use flour. He said it is a special mix sent to the store by Krispy Kreme but they don't tell him what is in it so he doesn't run off and open his own doughnut shop :)


He puts it all in a machine and leaves it for like...17 minutes? Maybe. And then it comes out as this...


Then he puts the dough into this machine


Layla was the only one who went closer to look at it. There are attachments that hook onto the machine to squirt out the doughnut shape. They have the ring attachment as well as one that spits out the "holes" and the shells.


SO many. Yum.


Here we are finding out how they make the filled ones. This machine has little spikes that you stick the doughnut on and and squirts the filling inside.

Now what good is a filled doughnut without powdered sugar? Here he shows us how they sift it on top. Same goes for the cinnamon topping.




Here is the 'decorating section'


She takes a regular glazed doughnut and dips it in a tub of spinning chocolate


Then either dips it in sprinkles...or doesn't.


Now Layla isn't shy but just super excited and ready to eat one


Back to the other side you see all the little rings of dough lifting up...


Then they drop onto a little conveyor belt that takes them on a ride through some hot oil


That is when they come out all brown and pretty


and ready to roll under a shower of icing


And then back around to get boxed up or decorated


They also have coffee. I wish I would have remembered before I drank some at home before leaving.

Once our tour was done Layla got free glazed doughnut and I got us some drinks


She was covered in it. She also told me she wished we could live there!




Because I had coffee I already I opted for the orange creamsicle style smoothie. Yum.


It was a GREAT day! Thanks to Gina for setting it up and inviting the Rucker Moms group as well as the Dothan group! And of course I came home with a dozen doughnuts for us :)
